Got a ticket worth 5 points or fewer? Choose the course at court when you post bond and those points never go on your record (NDCC 39-06.1-10.1). Just get your certificate to NDDOT within 30 days.
The course can't undo a suspension. North Dakota suspends at 12 points, 7 days for each point over 11, and the reduction applies after you serve it. Under 18, the license is canceled at 6 points. More from the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

See every question How many points does the course take off?
Three, once every twelve months, capped at nine points in any three-year period. The reduction applies to points that were on your record before you completed the course, not to points added later.
What is "in lieu of points"?
A choice you make at court when you post bond for a violation worth five points or fewer: complete an approved course and the points are never entered on your record. The bond is still forfeited. You must get your certificate to NDDOT within 30 days of the election, and you can only use the option once every twelve months. It is not a dismissal.
Can I use both the reduction and the in-lieu option in the same year?
No. Electing a course in lieu of points forfeits the three-point reduction for that twelve-month period.
I have twelve points. Will the course stop my suspension?
No. At twelve or more points North Dakota suspends the license, seven days for each point over eleven. The reduction applies only after the suspension is served. Take the course anyway so the reduction is ready when you are eligible.
How long does the course take?
Four hours, self-paced. Most people finish in one or two evenings. There is no state deadline for the course itself; only the in-lieu election carries a 30-day submission deadline.
What is the final exam like?
Twenty-five questions, eighteen correct to pass. Unlimited retakes with different questions and no waiting period.
How do I get my certificate to NDDOT?
Email it to drs@nd.gov or mail it to the Driver License Division. Step-by-step instructions are in our help center. North Dakota has no provider reporting system, so this step is yours.
Is it really $24.99?
Yes. The certificate, unlimited retakes and support are inside that number. There is no processing fee and no upgraded version of the course.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full, at any time before you complete the course. After you pass the exam and the certificate is issued, no refund is available.
Does the course lower my insurance?
We do not promise that. Some insurers offer a premium reduction for a defensive driving course; ask yours before you enroll if that is your reason.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. The course and exam work on a phone, and your progress saves the moment you leave.
Is this an NDDOT course?
No. NDDOT approves courses offered by private providers and lists them on its website. We are a private company; our approval status is shown at the top of every page.
