By Road Ready Safety · Checked against Missouri law on
Short answer
The court originator number, also called the ORI or state identification number, identifies the court that approved your Driver Improvement Program. It starts with MO and ends with J. Online courses ask for it at sign-up so it appears on your completion form. Get it from your court's website or the clerk.
- Format
- MO, six digits, then J
- Who has it
- Your court clerk
- Used for
- Your completion form
- Example
- Boone County: MO010033J
What is a court originator number?
It's the state's identifier for a court. Two Missouri courts publish theirs for drivers taking the Driver Improvement Program:
| Court | Number | What the court calls it |
|---|---|---|
| Boone County Circuit Court | MO010033J | Court originator number |
| Creve Coeur Municipal Court | MO095151J | State identification number |
Why does the course ask for it?
So your completion form names the right court. The Boone County court tells drivers: "In order to participate in an on-line class, you will need the court originator number." Creve Coeur says you "may need" its number "for your application."
Where do I find mine?
- Look at your court paperwork.
- Check the court's website. Search the page for "originator" or "identification number."
- Call the clerk of the court on your citation and ask for the court's originator number for a Driver Improvement Program.
Don't guess, and don't use another court's number. The completion form goes to the Department of Revenue and has to match your case.
What else will I need to enroll?
- Your name, date of birth and Missouri driver license number, as they appear on your license
- Your citation or case number
- The court's name
- Your conviction date, which starts the 60 days
What happens to the completion form?
The course provider gives you MO Form 4444 when you pass. You take it to the court for a signature, and it goes to the Department of Revenue within 15 days. The Boone County court asks for the original certificate to be "forwarded to our office promptly." Form 4444 has the steps.
Does every court use the same process?
No. Ask your clerk whether the court wants the original, whether it sends the form to the state, and whether it accepts email.
