Missouri's 60-day Driver Improvement Program deadline
By Road Ready Safety · Checked against Missouri law on
Short answer
You have 60 days from the date of your conviction to finish the course. The conviction date is the day you plead guilty, are found guilty, or pay the ticket. If you finish late, the state doesn't accept the course and the points are added. The deadline is in the statute, so courts generally can't extend it.
- Deadline
- 60 days from conviction
- Clock starts
- The day you plead guilty or pay
- Course length
- 8 hours
- After you finish
- Form 4444 to the state within 15 days
When does the 60 days start?
On your conviction date. RSMo 302.302 says the program must "be completed within sixty days of the date of conviction." You're convicted the day you plead guilty or are found guilty. Paying a ticket counts: the law treats payment as a guilty plea and a conviction.
The clock does not start when you enroll in a course.
Can the court give me more time?
Usually not. The 60 days come from state law, not from the court. The Creve Coeur Municipal Court tells drivers that in many instances these deadlines "may NOT be extended by this court as they are state statute regulated."
If something serious gets in the way, call the clerk before day 60. Don't assume.
What happens if I miss it?
The course isn't accepted in place of the points, and the Department of Revenue adds them. A state speeding ticket is 3 points. You've also paid for a course that didn't do what you bought it for.
How long does the course take?
Eight hours. Ours is self-paced, saves your place, and ends with a 25-question final. Most people finish across three or four sittings.
What is a safe schedule?
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Court approves the program. Write down the conviction date. Enroll. |
| Days 2 to 14 | Finish the 8 hours and pass the final. |
| Days 15 to 21 | Get Form 4444 signed by the court clerk. |
| By day 30 | Mail the form to the Department of Revenue. Keep proof. |
That leaves a month for anything that goes wrong: a closed clerk's office, a lost envelope, a failed exam attempt.
Is there a second deadline?
Yes. The Missouri Safety Center says Form 4444 must get to the Department of Revenue within 15 days of finishing the course. Form 4444 covers who signs it and where it goes.
I'm on day 50. Is it too late?
Not yet. Eight hours fits in two days. Enroll today, finish tomorrow, and take the form to the clerk in person the day after. Then mail it with tracking.
