How long is the Missouri Driver Improvement Program?
Eight hours. That comes from state law, which requires the program to "meet or exceed the standards of the National Safety Council's eight-hour Defensive Driving Course." Every approved course is 8 hours, whoever sells it.
Each of our modules has a minimum time, and together they add up to the 8 hours. You can't finish faster than that. You can stop and come back as often as you like.
What does the course cover?
Twelve modules:
- Introduction and orientation
- Traffic laws and why they matter
- Defensive driving techniques
- The psychology of driving
- Impaired driving
- Sharing the road
- Crash dynamics and avoidance
- The vehicle and driving environment
- Risk and how to manage it
- Preparing to drive
- The six unsafe behaviors
- Driving for life
Then the final exam.
Is there a test?
One. The final exam is 25 questions, and 20 correct passes. There are no quizzes between modules.
What if I fail the final?
Take it again. Retakes are unlimited, there's no waiting period, and the questions are different each time. We don't charge for them.
Can I do it on my phone?
Yes. The course and the exam work in a phone's browser. Your progress saves when you leave, so you can switch between your phone and a computer.
What do I need to enroll?
- Your name, date of birth and Missouri driver license number, as they appear on your license
- Your court and citation details, so they appear on your completion form
- A card for the $24.99
Have the court's approval before you enroll. The Missouri Safety Center says you need a conviction date before you take the course, and the court is the one that decides whether you can use the program.
What do I get when I pass?
Your certificate of completion and the completion form, MO Form 4444, ready to download the moment you pass. Form 4444 explains who signs it and where to mail it.
How should I plan the 8 hours?
Most people finish across three or four sittings. Two hours on four evenings does it. You have 60 days from your conviction, and we'd finish in the first two weeks.
What if I change my mind?
You get a full refund any time before you complete the course. After you pass and the certificate is issued, there's no refund.
