How long is the course?
Four hours. You can do it in one sitting or spread it out. Most people finish in one or two evenings.
What does it cover?
Eight modules:
- Introduction and orientation
- Traffic laws and why they matter
- Defensive driving techniques
- The psychology of driving
- Impaired driving
- Sharing the road, including farm equipment and winter traffic
- Crash dynamics and avoidance
- The vehicle and driving environment, including North Dakota's rules and point system
Then the final exam.
Are there quizzes?
A short one after each of the first seven modules. It's three questions, and you need all three right to move on. You can try as many times as you need, and the correct answers are shown.
What is the final exam like?
Twenty-five questions. Eighteen correct passes. If you miss it, you can retake it right away with different questions. There's no limit and no charge.
Will I be asked to prove who I am?
Yes, briefly. You answer a few personal-history questions when you start and again before the final exam. That confirms the person finishing the course is the person who enrolled.
Can I do it on my phone?
Yes. The course and exam work in a phone's browser, and your progress saves when you leave. You can switch between a phone and a computer.
What do I need to enroll?
- Your name, date of birth and North Dakota driver license number, as they appear on your license

What do I get when I pass?
A certificate of completion, ready to download from your account as a PDF the moment you pass. We also email you the link.

Is there a deadline to finish?
Not from us, and not for the 3-point reduction. If you elected the course at court in lieu of points, NDDOT needs your certificate within 30 days of the election.
What if I change my mind?
You get a full refund any time before you complete the course. After you pass and the certificate is issued, there's no refund.
