Where is the Mandan Municipal Court?
On the second floor of the Morton County Courthouse, 210 2nd Ave NW, Mandan. The clerk's number is (701) 667-3270.
How do I pay a Mandan traffic ticket?
Post the bond amount on your citation with the court. The court says it "must be paid in full by check, cash, money order, or credit card; partial payments are not accepted." Read the notification form printed on the envelope that came with your citation. The deadlines on it are set by state law.
How long do I have?
Fourteen calendar days. Signing the citation when the officer hands it to you is not an admission of guilt. It acknowledges that you received it.
How do I contest the ticket?
Call the clerk at (701) 667-3270, or sign the hearing request on the face of the citation and enclose the fee within 14 days. The court sets a first appearance, where the judge advises you of your rights and sets a trial within 90 days. If you're found not guilty, the bond is refunded by check. An appeal has to be filed in writing within 30 days.
What if my ticket isn't from Mandan police?
A ticket from the Highway Patrol or a Morton County Sheriff's deputy is paid at the Morton County Courthouse, to the district court, not the city court.
Does the court decide my points?
No. NDDOT does. The court reports the violation to NDDOT, and NDDOT enters the points from the state schedule. A stop sign ticket is 2 points. Speeding is 0 to 15 depending on your speed. Points by violation.
How do I keep the points off?
State law lets you elect a driver training course in lieu of points for a violation worth 5 points or fewer. You have to tell the court at the time you post bond, then get your certificate to NDDOT within 30 days.
Mandan's court page points drivers to NDDOT at (701) 328-2604 for point reduction, and doesn't explain how to record an election. Call the clerk at (701) 667-3270 before you post bond and ask.
What if I've already paid?
The points will post. A defensive driving course takes 3 off, once every 12 months. Email the certificate to drs@nd.gov. How the course works.
