How do I see my points online?
Use NDDOT's Drivers License Record Request System. You enter your name, date of birth and driver ID, pay $3 by card, and the record appears on screen. Print it or send it to an email address before you close the window. NDDOT says that once you close the application you can't reprint or re-email it.
What is on the limited record?
Your current point total and your recent history. NDDOT says a limited record leaves out:
- The date your license was first issued
- Violations and convictions more than three years old
- Suspensions, revocations and cancellations that were satisfied more than three years ago
- Crash information
For counting points, the limited record is enough.
How do I get the complete record?
Fill out form SFN 51386, Request for Driver Abstract, and mail it with the $3 fee to:
Driver License Division 608 E. Boulevard Ave Bismarck, ND 58505-0750
The complete record includes older violations and crash information.
What should I look for?
- Your point total. Twelve suspends your license. For a driver under 18, six cancels it.
- The date your last points were entered. One point comes off for every three months after that date without new points.
- Whether a recent ticket has posted yet. Points are entered when NDDOT receives the report from the court.
I sent in a course certificate. When should I check?
Give NDDOT a couple of weeks, then order a limited record. Your total should be 3 lower. If it isn't, call the Driver License Division at 701-328-2604. The office answers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 to 3.
When is the best time to take the course?
When the reduction will do the most. If you have 3 or more points, the course takes off 3. If you have 1 or 2, waiting three to six months clears them for free. If you're at 9 or more, take it now. How the course works.
