What does the law say?
RSMo 304.017: a driver "shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonably safe and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon and the condition of the roadway."
There's no set distance in the statute. The officer and the court judge what was safe for the speed and conditions.
