Texas DPS wait times, every office: your road test is 2 days away or 94, depending on where you book

As of October 13, 2026, the median Texas DPS office books a road test 20 days out. 83 of 218 offices are more than a month out, and the longest is Pearsall at 94 days. A first-license appointment runs a median of 7 days. The table below lists all 227 offices, slowest first, with a search box. At the slow end the queue is longer than a certificate DPS makes you hold for that same test, and that rule is the part most people learn too late.

How long is the wait for a Texas driving test right now?

20 days at the median office, and anywhere from 2 days to 94 depending on which one you pick. 83 offices are more than a month out, 17 are past two months, and offer no road test at all.

The spread is the story. The quickest offices book a road test this week; the slowest are a season away. Nothing about you decides which one you get. The office does, and you choose the office.

Which DPS office has the shortest wait near you?

Type your city. All 227 offices are listed, slowest road test first. “Road test” is the DPS Non CDL Drive Test appointment; “first license” is the Original appointment; “at the counter” is DPS’s average wait from arrival to being served once you are there, a separate clock from the appointment itself.

Before you drive three hours to a fast office: these figures move daily, DPS holds same-day appointments at every office except the Carrollton Mega Center, and a cancellation at your local office may beat the drive. Check the live report first.

Why can your ITAD certificate expire before your road test?

Because DPS requires an Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) certificate dated within 90 days of your driving skills test, and at the slow end the queue is longer than that. On October 13, 2026, 1 office had a road-test queue longer than 90 days (Pearsall, at 94), and 17 offices were past 60 days, close enough that one reschedule pushes the certificate out of date.

The fix is free: book the road test first, then watch the video. The intuitive order, course, video, then look for an appointment, is what burns the certificate. The full sequence is in the 90-day certificate trap.

How do you get an earlier DPS appointment?

Three ways, and none of them is a trick. DPS releases a limited number of same-day appointments at every office except the Carrollton Mega Center, first come first served, and they go quickly. Cancellations free up earlier slots that the published estimate does not count, so the real wait is often shorter than the number in the table. And a DPS-certified third-party school can give you the Class C road test without the DPS queue at all, for a fee the school sets. When a third-party test is worth paying for.

Appointments can be booked up to six months ahead, so the number you see is the worst case, not the only case. Book at public.txdpsscheduler.com.

What do these numbers mean, and what do they not mean?

  • Source. The figures are DPS’s own published report, dated 10/13/2026 and read by us on 2026-10-13. We did not survey anyone or model anything.
  • Coverage. DPS listed 234 offices on 2026-10-13. 7 were excluded (above), leaving 227 reporting an Original or Non CDL Drive Test appointment. Of those, 218 report a non-commercial road test; 9 do not offer one, and show as “not offered”.
  • A snapshot, not a feed. DPS refreshes daily from the previous business day. Every figure here is one day’s reading and will already have moved.
  • The estimate excludes cancellations. DPS says so itself. Earlier appointments freed by someone rescheduling are not counted, so the real wait is often shorter than the published number.
  • Two different clocks. Days to the appointment and the wait at the counter measure different things. An office can be months out and still serve you in ten minutes once you are there, and several do.
  • We are not DPS. Their page governs.

Common questions

How long is the wait for a driving test in Texas?

As of October 13, 2026, the median Texas DPS office books a road test 20 days out. 83 of 218 offices are more than a month out, and the longest is Pearsall at 94 days. A first-license appointment runs a median of 7 days. It depends on the office more than anything else: the quickest offices book a road test inside a week.

Which Texas DPS office has the shortest wait for a road test?

On October 13, 2026 the shortest road-test queues were Fort Stockton (2 days), Pecos (2 days), Seminole (2 days). The figures move daily, so check DPS's live report on the day you book.

How do I get an earlier DPS appointment in Texas?

Three ways. DPS releases a limited number of same-day appointments at every office except the Carrollton Mega Center, first come first served. Cancellations free up earlier slots the published estimate does not count. And a DPS-certified third-party school can give the road test without the DPS queue, for a fee the school sets.

Can my Impact Texas Drivers certificate expire before my driving test?

Yes. The ITAD certificate must be dated within 90 days of your driving skills test. On October 13, 2026, 1 office had a road-test queue longer than that and 17 were past 60 days, so one reschedule can push you over. Book the test first, then watch the video.

Why is the first-license appointment faster than the driving test?

They are different transactions. DPS books "Original" appointments, the first-license transaction, at a median of 7 days and the road test at a median of 20. At 13 of 227 offices the road test was the quicker of the two.

Do I need the adult drivers ed course before I book the DPS appointment?

You need the ADE-1317 certificate at the appointment, not to book it. At 18 to 24 the six-hour course is required for a first license, and its final exam satisfies the highway sign and traffic law portions of the DPS knowledge exam. Most people finish it inside the wait for the appointment.
