Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written plea of no contest or guilty
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of insurance (applicant's name must appear on active policy)
- •Court cost payment (money order or cashier's check; call court for amount)
- •Completed Driving Safety Course Request form
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must be submitted before your plea due date
- •Completion window: 90 days after approval to complete course and submit certificate.
- •As of December 1, 2025, the court requires e-filing and no longer accepts paper filings for civil and criminal cases; mail by certified letter (return receipt requested) remains an option for DSC requests.
- •Online payment portal available at http://dentoncountytxjp1.municipalonlinepayments.com — credit/debit card payments subject to 2.75% processing fee.
- •Ineligible offenses: passing a school bus, fleeing or eluding police, accident involving vehicle damage, failure to provide information after accident, serious commercial motor vehicle violations. CDL holders not eligible.
- •Office closed for staff training: June 26, July 31, and August 28.
