Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed 'Defendants Plea and Request for DSC' form
- •Payment of court costs by cashier's check or money order at time of request (call to confirm the amount)
- •Completion certificate from a TDLR-approved Driving Safety Course
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of Texas DPS Type 3A driving record (obtained from DPS)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation
- •Completion window: 90 days.
- •Dallas County JP courts don't post a per-precinct DSC court cost online — call (972) 228-0280 to confirm the amount before your appearance date. Note: Precinct 1 requires e-filing as of March 2025.
- •Effective March 1, 2025, JP 1-1 requires MANDATORY e-filing; paper-only submissions no longer accepted.
- •DSC is not available if you completed a DSC to dismiss a ticket within the 12 months preceding the date of the current offense.
- •Ineligible offenses include: speeding 25+ mph over the limit or 95+ mph, school-bus passing, reckless driving, fleeing/eluding police, construction-zone violations when workers are present.
