North Dakota Insurance Premium Reduction Course questions, answered plainly
Every answer here comes from the state's rules or from how our course is built. If yours is not here, ask us before you pay.
Everything people ask before they enroll
How much will my premium go down?
That is your insurer's number, not ours. The law requires "an appropriate reduction in premium charges" and leaves the amount to each company's rate filing. If the figure matters to you, ask your agent before you enroll. We do not promise any amount.
How long does the reduction last?
At least two years from the date you complete the course. If you are fifty-five or older when you complete it, three years. Both periods are written into NDCC 26.1-25-04.1.
Who qualifies?
The principal operator of a private passenger vehicle, or a pickup or van under 10,000 pounds that is not used for hauling goods, insured in North Dakota. The reduction does not apply if your rate is experience-rated or your policy already carries a driver education reduction. On a policy with several vehicles, it applies to the one you principally drive.
Will my insurer accept this course?
The statute applies to every insurer's North Dakota rate filing, and it names courses approved by the superintendent of the Highway Patrol. Ours is built to the Patrol's curriculum rule and our approval status is shown at the top of every page. Insurers can still ask for the certificate in their own way, so ask your agent how they want it.
Is this the point reduction course?
No. This course lowers your premium; it does not change your driving record. Taking three points off, or keeping a new ticket's points off, is a separate course under NDDOT's point reduction program. We offer that one too, at roadreadysafety.com/north-dakota.
Do I need a ticket to take it?
No. Any North Dakota driver can take the course, with or without a ticket, and most people take it simply to lower their premium.
How do I get the reduction?
Finish the course, download your certificate, and give it to your agent or upload it where your insurer asks. Then read your next bill: the law says the reduction must be shown separately. If it is not there, call your agent with the certificate in hand.
How long does the course take?
Four hours, self-paced. Most people finish in one or two evenings. There is no deadline; the reduction simply starts from the date you finish.
What is the final exam like?
Twenty-five questions, eighteen correct to pass. Unlimited retakes with different questions and no waiting period. There are no quizzes between modules.
Is it really $24.99?
Yes. The certificate, unlimited retakes and support are inside that number. There is no processing fee and no upgraded version of the course.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full, at any time before you complete the course. After you pass the exam and the certificate is issued, no refund is available.
What happens when the two or three years are up?
The reduction ends. The law ties it to completing an approved course, so most drivers take the course again before the period runs out. Ask your insurer how far ahead they will accept a new certificate.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. The course and exam work on a phone, and your progress saves the moment you leave.
Is this a Highway Patrol course?
No. The Highway Patrol approves courses offered by private providers. We are a private company; our approval status is shown at the top of every page, and you can confirm it on the Patrol's list of approved online courses.
Four hours. One flat price. Two years of a lower premium, or three.
