Texas Defensive Driving for Employers and Fleets

Short answer

Your drivers can take the same TDLR-approved 6-hour course every Texas court accepts, for $28 per driver with the certificate included. Tell us how many drivers and we set it up. Two limits first: a driver who holds a CDL cannot use it to dismiss a ticket, and the certificate goes on the driver’s own record, not the company’s.

  • TDLR course provider CP1234
  • $28 per driver, certificate included
  • 6 hours online, any device
  • Stop and resume around shifts
  • Real support, phone and email

Who this is for

Small businesses whose people drive for work in their own cars or light company vehicles: field techs, sales reps, delivery and service crews, home health, real estate, landscaping. Three reasons employers send drivers to us, and they are not the same:

  • A driver got a ticket. The driver asks the court for the course by the appearance date, finishes it, and the ticket is dismissed. One course per driver, once every 12 months.
  • Insurance. Many Texas insurers give a discount for a completed defensive driving course on a personal policy. The amount and the term are the insurer’s; ask before you count on it. Our insurer-by-insurer page has what each one publishes.
  • Safety training. Six hours on speed, following distance, distraction, impairment and work zones, written to the state’s curriculum. No court or insurer needs to be involved.

The limit to read before you buy seats

A driver who holds a commercial driver license cannot use this course to dismiss a ticket, even one received in a personal car; Texas excludes CDL holders outright (Code of Criminal Procedure art. 45A.351(c)). The course is still fine for them as training or for an insurance discount their insurer offers. The CDL rules, in full.

What it costs

$28 per driver, certificate included, nothing added at checkout. That is our one price, for one driver or forty. Texas law sets a floor, not a ceiling: Education Code §1001.352 requires every driving safety provider to charge each student at least $25, so a bulk price below that is not a deal, it is a violation. Volume pricing above the floor is allowed; we would rather keep one honest number.

Not included, because they are not ours: the court’s fee to grant the course for a ticket (set by each court, often around $144) and the driver’s Type 3A driving record from DPS. Neither applies to a driver taking the course for insurance or training. The cost page walks through every line.

What each driver gets

  • The same course every Texas court accepts. TDLR course provider CP1234; the certificate is the state’s uniform certificate of completion.
  • Their own login and progress. Phone, tablet or computer; stop and resume at any point, so a six-hour course fits into breaks and evenings.
  • No final exam. Short quizzes after each unit, unlimited retakes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a bulk discount?

No, and no Texas provider can legitimately offer one below $25: Texas Education Code §1001.352 requires every driving safety provider to charge each student at least $25. Our price is $28 per driver with the certificate included, whether you enroll one driver or forty.

Can our CDL drivers use it to dismiss a ticket?

No. Code of Criminal Procedure art. 45A.351(c) excludes anyone who holds a commercial driver license, even for a ticket in a personal car. A CDL driver can still take the course as training or for an insurance discount their insurer offers, but not to keep a ticket off the record.

Whose record does the course go on?

The driver’s. The certificate is issued in the individual driver’s name and is used for that driver’s own ticket or insurance policy. It is not a company credential and it does not change a commercial policy by itself; ask your insurer what it offers for employee-completed courses.

How long does each driver need?

6 hours of course time, set by state rule, on a phone, tablet or computer. Drivers can stop and pick up where they left off, so it fits around shifts. There is no final exam; short quizzes follow each unit with unlimited retakes.

How do we get the certificates?

Each driver downloads their own certificate the moment they finish. For a ticket, the driver sends it to the court with a Type 3A driving record; for insurance, the driver sends it to the insurer. Ask us if you need completion confirmed for your own files.

Does a driver need court approval first?

Only for ticket dismissal. A driver dismissing a ticket must ask the court for the course by the appearance date on the citation, before enrolling. Drivers taking it for insurance or as training can enroll any time.

Road Ready Safety is a TDLR-licensed Texas driving safety provider (CP1234). This page is informational and not legal advice; dismissal is granted by the court on the driver’s citation, and any insurance discount is set by the insurer.
