Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Original traffic ticket
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of insurance (company name, phone, effective dates, you listed as driver)
- •Signed and notarized Driver's Safety Course Request Affidavit
- •Payment for court fee (Money Order, Check, Visa, or Mastercard)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Within the time prescribed by law — call court at (972) 547-1880 to confirm; failure to provide proof may result in a warrant and additional fees.
- •Court is located at 1025 S. State Highway 78, Lavon, TX 75166 — serves the eastern Collin County area including Lavon, Wylie, and Sachse.
- •Email is the most efficient way to reach clerks; filings are NOT accepted by email.
- •DSC ineligible if: speeding 24+ mph over limit, passing a school bus, fleeing a police officer, or if a DSC was completed within the past 12 months.
- •Deferred disposition (up to 180 days probation) is an alternative dismissal option; not available for speeding 30+ mph over limit or tickets from a traffic accident.
