Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Original traffic ticket
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of current auto insurance (showing insurer name, phone, effective dates, and defendant listed as driver)
- •Signed and notarized Driver's Safety Course Request Affidavit
- •Payment of court cost (money order, check, Visa, or Mastercard)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Contact court before appearance date to request DSC permission
- •Completion window: 90 days (state default under Tex. CCP 45A).
- •JP courts handle county-road and DPS-issued Class C traffic tickets; city municipal courts handle city-road tickets.
- •Filings are not accepted by email — submit DSC request and documents in person or by mail.
- •Online portal (municipalonlinepayments.com) is for fine/fee payments only, not DSC submission.
- •Eligibility: defendant must not have taken a DSC in the prior 12 months; offense must not be speeding 25+ mph over the limit, passing a school bus, fleeing police, or other excluded offenses.
