⚠ Bexar County posts a countywide JP DSC fee of $136 court cost + $10 DPS driving-record reimbursement = $146 total (school zone $171). The county Traffic Tickets page states no precinct-specific exceptions; fee applies uniformly across all four JP precincts. Includes mandatory $10 check/money order to DPS for driving record.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Court-prepared Affidavit to Take a Driving Safety Course (notarized if mailed)
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance copy)
- •Original signed certificate of DSC completion
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Driving Record Form with $10 check/money order payable to Department of Public Safety (mailed to DPS Austin)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before your court date
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date you signed the court-prepared Affidavit.
- •DSC eligibility requires valid Texas driver license and no prior DSC dismissal within the preceding 12 months.
- •Ineligible if charged with speeding more than 24 mph over the posted limit.
- •County instructs: 'Do not take a driving safety course without pre-approval from the exact court listed on your ticket.'
- •The $10 DPS driving-record fee is paid directly to DPS, not to the court; it is a required step, not an optional add-on.
