Can You Skip the Timer in Texas Defensive Driving?
Short answer
No. Texas requires every approved defensive driving course to be six hours, with at least five hours of instruction, and online courses enforce it with timers. A course that lets you skip them is not TDLR-approved, and its certificate won't dismiss your ticket. What you can do is make the six hours painless: finish in one day, stop and resume whenever you like, and get the certificate the minute you're done.
Why the timer exists
Dismissing a ticket with defensive driving is a deal the state offers: you spend six hours on a safety course, and the ticket stays off your record. TDLR, which licenses every provider, sets the six-hour length for online and classroom courses alike. Online providers have to prove you spent the time, so they time each page. If a provider let people skip, it would be putting its license, and your dismissal, at risk.
That is why "no timer" and "done in 2 hours" offers are a red flag. Before you pay anyone, find their CP license number on the list of TDLR-approved courses. Ours is CP1234.

- Don't cut it close. TDLR says a new certificate can take up to five days to show in its system, so finish at least a week before your court's deadline.
