How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written request for driving safety course (signed)
- •Copy of citation
- •Valid Texas Class C driver's license
- •Proof of insurance (required at time of offense)
- •Original DSC completion certificate (TDLR-approved provider)
- •Court cost payment
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Driving record (Texas DPS certified — not older than 30 days)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Written request and copy of citation must be mailed with a postmark on or before the appearance date on the citation; late postmarks result in denial.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date permission is granted (verify with court).
- •Do NOT take the driving safety course until the court grants permission.
- •Ineligible offenses include: passing a school bus, fleeing police, crash involving property damage, and serious commercial motor vehicle violations.
- •Defendant must not have completed a DSC within the prior 12 months (per Texas DPS driving record).
- •Offense must be less than 25 mph over the posted speed limit to qualify.
