How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed DSC/Motorcycle Operator Training Course Request Form
- •Proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance)
- •Cashier's check or money order for $146.00 court costs
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Texas Type 3A driving record (ordered separately from DPS)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must be received by the court prior to the appearance date on the citation; if mailing, use certified mail return receipt requested, postmarked on or before the answer date
- •Completion window: Deadline set by court order after request approved; do not take the course until you receive the court's order.
- •Mail submissions must use certified mail, return receipt requested, postmarked on or before the appearance date.
- •Juveniles under 17 must appear in court with a parent, guardian, or managing conservator to enter a plea and request DSC.
- •Ineligible if: hold a CDL, charged with passing a school bus, charged with failing to stop and give information after an accident, charged with speeding 95+ mph or 25+ mph over the posted limit, charged with a construction zone offense while workers were present, or already completed a DSC within the 12 months preceding the offense date.
