DSC Court Fees
⚠ School zone violations include an additional $25 Child Safety Fee assessed by state statutory law ($144 + $25 = $169).
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed DSC request form ('green sheet')
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance) listing the defendant as a driver
- •Payment of court costs ($144 standard / $169 school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Texas DPS certified driving record (Type 3A, $12)
- •Driving safety course certificate of completion (after course)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation (mailed requests must be postmarked by that date)
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of the request to submit the completion certificate and driving record.
- •Do NOT sign up for a driving safety course until you have a written court order from the judge.
- •Eligibility: no DSC completed in Texas in the past 12 months, speed not 25+ mph over the limit, no CDL, and no serious violations (e.g., fleeing police, passing a school bus).
- •Deferred disposition note: defendants under 25 must complete a DSC as a probation term; provisional license holders must also pass a DPS behind-the-wheel test.
