DSC Court Fees
⚠ Small additional fee for credit/debit card payments. Personal checks not accepted. Court accepts cash, money order, or credit/debit card.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Defensive Driving Request Form (brochure given by officer OR form from online process)
- •Photocopy of Texas Liability Insurance Card (must be in your name or state you are a policy member; can be uploaded online)
- •Photocopy of Texas Driver's License (can be uploaded online; active military: non-Texas license + military ID)
- •Copy of Texas Driving Record no older than 30 days before the date of the citation (order from DPS at 512-424-2600 or DPS website)
- •Payment of court DSC fee ($144.00 standard / $169.00 school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These

Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Before your scheduled appearance/due date — request must be submitted to the court prior to that date
- •You have Required items must be received by your scheduled due date (court does not publish a separate fixed-day window post-approval; confirm exact deadline with court) to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Eligibility: Must have a valid Texas driver's license (or be active military), must not have taken defensive driving within the last 12 months immediately preceding the date of the alleged offense, and must not be currently taking a course for another violation in Texas.
- •Defensive driving may only be taken for ticket dismissal on moving violations.
- •Disqualifying violations: Speeding 25 mph or more over the posted limit; CDL holders (regardless of vehicle driven).
- •Juveniles under age 17 must first appear in open court with a parent or guardian to ask permission from the judge — they cannot request online, by mail, or by fax.
