How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driver's Safety Request Form (required to initiate DSC request)
- •Signed Affidavit attesting you have not completed a Driver's Safety Course in the past 12 months
- •Copy of Texas Driver's License OR proof of active military duty
- •Copy of proof of insurance showing your name as an insured driver
- •Payment of court costs plus $10 administrative fee
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •AFTER COURSE — DSC Certificate of Completion (signed 'court copy' only; receipt or screen-print not accepted)
- •AFTER COURSE — Texas DPS Type 3 or 3A Driving Record (order early; mail requests take ~14 days)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before your initial appearance date listed on the citation (failure to appear timely results in a $100 fine increase per Judicial Order)
- •You have 90 days from court approval to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Plea required: Must enter a plea of No Contest or Guilty — cannot plead Not Guilty and receive DSC.
- •12-month rule: Must not have used a DSC to dismiss a citation in the previous 12 months.
- •Court copy of certificate required: 'The Court can only accept the signed court copy of the driver's safety certificate.' A receipt or screen-print from the internet will NOT be accepted.
- •Order driving record early: DPS Type 3 or 3A record may take up to 14 days if mailed; online print not always available.
