How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed plea form (provided with court's courtesy letter after approval)
- •Money order or cashier's check for $144.00
- •Photocopy of current auto liability insurance policy
- •Photocopy of valid Texas Driver's License
- •Copy of citation
- •Self-addressed stamped envelope
- •Certified completion certificate from a TDLR-approved driver safety course provider (submitted after course completion, within 90-day window)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS (submitted with completion certificate)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request DSC before your initial court appearance date; do not enroll in the course until the court approves your request and you receive the courtesy letter.
- •Completion window: 90 days from court approval to submit completion certificate and driving record.
- •Do not enroll in a driver safety course until you receive written approval and the plea form from the court.
- •Motorcycle riders must take the Motorcycle Operator Training Course instead of a standard DSC.
- •Seat belt violations require a specialized seat belt safety course, not a standard DSC.
- •The court notifies applicants by mail of approval or denial.
