To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Plea of guilty or no contest
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (or active duty military ID)
  • Proof of financial responsibility (auto insurance valid at time of offense)
  • Signed Affidavit stating defendant was not taking a DSC/motorcycle training course on the date of request and has not completed such a course within the 12 months preceding the offense date (affidavit provided by the court at time of appearance)
  • DSC Completion Certificate (TDLR-approved course)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certified Type 3A Driving Record (from Texas DPS) — confirming no DSC taken in prior 12 months

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • You have 90 days from DSC approval/court order (60 or 90 days — court determines at time of approval) to complete the course and submit all documents.
  • DSC can only be requested if a plea of guilty or no contest is entered on or before the court appearance date.
  • DSC is not available if the defendant has completed a driving safety course within the last 12 months preceding the date of the offense.
  • Juveniles (17 and under) must appear in person with a parent or legal guardian; they cannot submit DSC requests online.
  • Arrangements on cases CANNOT be made over the telephone.
  • The affidavit required for DSC is provided by the court at the time of the court appearance — not available as a standalone download on the court's website.
