DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court costs/fees are $144.10 for a standard offense, or $169.10 if the offense occurred in a school zone, per the court's official Apply Online page.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of current insurance
- •Notarized affidavit swearing that on the date of the request the applicant was not taking, and had not completed within the preceding 12 months, a driving safety/motorcycle operator training course
- •Plea of guilty or no contest (nolo contendere)
- •Payment of court costs/fees ($144.10 standard / $169.10 school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the scheduled appearance/arraignment date listed on the citation.
- •Completion window: Standard TX rule is 90 days to complete after approval (the court did not publish a specific completion window) — confirm with the court..
- •Official court warning: 'DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE COURT' — approval must precede enrollment.
- •Eligibility per the court's Apply Online page: cannot use this option if you completed a DSC/MOTC within the prior 12 months, hold a CDL, were 25+ mph over, or received the violation in an active construction zone. Standard TX law also excludes passing a stopped school bus.
- •Mailing address (P.O. Box 817, Prairie View, TX 77446-0817) differs from the physical/street address (44500 Business Hwy. 290, Prairie View, TX 77446).
