How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Copy of valid, non-commercial Texas Driver's License or permit (active military: military ID + valid driver's license from any state)
- •Proof of current vehicle liability insurance (financial responsibility) — required at time of DSC request
- •Original court copy of Driving Safety Course completion certificate from a TDLR-certified course provider
- •Plea of Guilty or Nolo Contendere (entered at time of request)
- •Payment of court costs and administrative fee (due at time of request)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified (Type 3A) copy of driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety — must be submitted on or before the 90th day
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before appearance date on citation (Art. 45.0511(b)(3), C.C.P.)
- •You have All required documents (DSC certificate + Type 3A driving record) must be submitted on or before the 90th day from court approval — the court explicitly warns: 'You do not have 90 days to take the course. - •You must complete the DSC request BEFORE taking the course — taking the course prior to court approval will disqualify the request.
- •Juveniles cannot request DSC by mail or online — they must appear in open court with a parent or guardian.
- •E-filing of completion documents is available through select course providers (electronic submission directly from provider to court). Contact court for participating providers.
- •Failure to comply with all DSC order requirements by the 90th day results in a mandatory Show Cause hearing before the judge.
