How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed DSC/Deferred Request Form
- •$144.00 administrative fee
- •Proof of insurance
- •Texas driver's license/permit (or active-duty military verification)
- •At completion: approved driving safety course completion certificate
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •At completion: Texas DPS certified driving record (Type 3A) showing no DSC in the prior 12 months
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Written request must be submitted on or before the appearance date on the citation.
- •Completion window: 90 days to submit the course completion certificate and certified driving record..
- •Minors under 17 must appear with a parent/guardian.
- •Ineligible if: took a safety course within the prior 12 months, hold a CDL, or charged with serious violations (leaving the accident scene, failure to provide accident info, passing a stopped school bus, speeding 25+ over, or 95+ mph).
- •Deferred Disposition is offered as an alternative; drivers age 25 or under with a moving violation must take a driving safety course as a condition.
- •Court does not accept personal checks; cards incur a 6.5% service fee.
