How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid, non-commercial driver's license (not a CDL)
- •Proof of current automobile insurance showing you as a covered driver
- •Completed Driving Safety Course Request Form
- •Plea of guilty or no contest
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date listed on the citation. Do not begin a DSC until you receive the court order granting the request.
- •Completion window: Set by the court order; the course must be a 6-hour TDLR-approved driving safety course..
- •DO NOT enroll in or begin a DSC before receiving the court order granting permission — not all citations/defendants are eligible.
- •Must enter a plea of guilty or no contest and request DSC on or before the appearance date.
- •Ineligible: CDL holders; speeding 25+ mph over the posted limit; citations involving an accident, property damage, or personal injury; construction-zone violations with workers present; passing a stopped school bus; failure to remain at an accident scene; non-traffic violations.
- •Cannot have taken a DSC for dismissal within the past 12 months; cannot have already paid the fine.
