DSC Court Fees

How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed and signed Motion for Driving Safety Course Request form (download from Court Documents page at hursttx.gov)
- •Clear and legible copy of valid Texas driver's license (Class C — NOT a CDL; active military may substitute military ID with valid DL)
- •Clear and legible copy of valid liability insurance
- •Payment of $144.00 (regular zone) or $169.00 (school zone) — check, money order, or credit card; no cash by mail
- •AFTER COMPLETION (within 90 days): Court copy of TEA-approved Driving Safety Course certificate — must be the designated court copy, signed by defendant, and reflect completion for Hurst Municipal Court within 90 days of request date
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •AFTER COMPLETION (within 90 days): Certified copy of driving record obtained from the Texas Department of Public Safety
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before appearance/court date; request must be submitted prior to that date via mail, online, or in person
- •You have 90 days from the date of court approval/request to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Eligibility: Must hold a valid Texas Class C driver's license (NOT a CDL), or be active U.S. military or spouse/dependent child of active military.
- •12-month rule: Defendant must NOT have requested and taken a driving safety course for any traffic offense within the 12 months preceding the date of the current offense. 'It is your responsibility to determine if you have taken defensive driving in the preceding 12 months.'
- •Cannot be currently taking a DSC for another traffic violation at the same time.
- •Ineligible offenses include: speeding 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit (portal states 'No person speeding over 24 mph will be granted or allowed defensive driving'), and other disqualifying offenses listed on the court's defensive driving page.
