To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Copy of valid Texas driver's license
  • Current proof of insurance
  • Payment of court cost/administrative fee ($144, or $169 school zone)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Driver's safety course certificate of completion (submit within 90 days)
  • Certified copy of driving record (submit within 90 days)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before your appearance date.
  • Completion window: 90 days after the request is processed to submit the course completion certificate and certified driving record..
  • Eligibility: citation must not be more than 24 mph over the posted speed limit.
  • Defensive driving may be used only once in a 12-month period (measured from the last course completion date).
  • Applicant may not currently be on deferred disposition with another city or county.
  • DSC and deferred-disposition payments CANNOT be made through the online traffic payment portal; contact the court directly. Online/phone payment is for paying citations in full only.
