Rockwall Municipal Court — Driver Safety Course Instructions
DSC Court Fees
⚠ State Fee only — does not include the cost of the driving safety course itself. A separate $10.00 fee for a certified copy of your driving record is also required, paid to the State of Texas.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written notice/DSC request (complete designated section on bottom of citation)
- •State Fee payment of $144.00 (standard) or $169.00 (school zone) — cashier's check or money order payable to City of Rockwall
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certificate of Completion from a State-Approved driving safety course
- •Certified copy of driving record (Type 3A) from Texas DPS — $10.00 fee paid to State of Texas
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •WITHIN 15 DAYS FROM THE DATE THE CITATION WAS ISSUED — verbatim court language: 'YOU WILL LOSE THAT RIGHT IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE WRITTEN NOTICE TO THE COURT OF YOUR DESIRE TO DO SO ON OR BEFORE THE FIFTEEN (15) DAYS FROM THE DATE THE CITATION WAS ISSUED.'
- •You have Deadline set by the court upon approval — contact court for exact timeframe to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •DSC request deadline is 15 days from the date the citation was issued — NOT the appearance date. This is stricter than many Texas courts.
- •Work zone (construction zone) violations are NOT eligible for DSC dismissal.
- •CDL holders are NOT eligible for defensive driving dismissal.
- •Only ONE moving violation may be dismissed via DSC per 12-month period statewide.
