How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written request for permission to take the driving safety course
- •Written plea of Guilty or No Contest
- •Valid Texas Driver's License
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
- •Driving safety course completion certificate (filed with the Court after completion)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must submit written request, enter plea, and pay court costs/state tax before the appearance deadline (request before the case is set).
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and file the completion certificate with the Court..
- •Eligibility: must NOT have completed a defensive driving course in the preceding 12 months, must hold a valid Texas Driver's License, and must provide proof of financial responsibility.
- •Ineligible offenses: any offense in a construction zone with workers present; any traffic offense with a CDL; fleeing a police officer; leaving the scene of an accident; passing a school bus; reckless driving; speeding 25 mph or more over the posted limit.
- •Process requires entering a written plea of Guilty or No Contest plus paying court costs and state tax up front.
- •Judge availability: Monday 5:00–6:00 PM (if needed) and Thursday 9:00–11:00 AM.
