DSC Court Fees
⚠ State fee only — do not also pay the original fine. $144 standard; $169 if the offense was in a school zone.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •No Contest plea form (mark Initial Letter A)
- •Written notice of intent to take DSC, on or before the appearance date
- •Proof of vehicle insurance / financial responsibility
- •Copy of driver's license
- •Money order for $144.00 ($169.00 if school zone) — state fee only
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Type 3A certified copy of driving record
- •Certificate of completion from a Texas-approved Driving Safety Course (returned after the course)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must provide written notice to the Court on or before the appearance date on the citation.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the appearance date to complete the course and return the certificate of completion and driving record. No extensions granted..
- •Eligibility: no DSC taken in the preceding 12 months and a valid Texas Driver's License.
- •DSC dismisses only one violation on the ticket.
- •Ineligible: passing a school bus, speeding 25+ over, reckless driving, leaving the accident scene, failure to stop and give information/render aid, construction zone with workers present, or CDL holders.
- •Deferred disposition is a separate option (No Contest plea + fine + $50; 30 days unsupervised probation; drivers under 25 must also complete a DSC).
