How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Notarized affidavit (on or attached to ticket) stating you have not taken a Defensive Driving course within the 12 months prior to the citation
- •Proof of completion of defensive driving (DSC Certificate from a state-approved provider)
- •Certified copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) — court supplies the form upon DSC request
- •Court fee payment of $144.00 (prior to taking course)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) — court supplies the form upon DSC request
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before the Appearance Date listed on your citation
- •You have 90 days from court approval/processing of paperwork to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Fee must be paid to the court PRIOR to taking the defensive driving course — payment can be made in person, by mail, or online.
- •If age 16 or under, you MUST appear before the Judge with a parent or guardian. Juvenile docket is held every Tuesday at 4pm — contact court to schedule.
- •CDL holders are NOT eligible for defensive driving or deferred disposition.
- •You may NOT take defensive driving if you have already paid your fine or made payment arrangements.
