How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas Driver's License (non-commercial)
- •Proof of liability insurance / financial responsibility
- •Completed DSC request form (court provides or downloadable from court site)
- •Court costs paid at time of request
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •After course completion: Official Driving Safety Course Certificate of Completion (from a TDLR-approved provider)
- •Certified copy of Texas Driving Record — Type 3A (ordered from Texas DPS; court states it will provide an order form)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Within 14 calendar days of the date of citation (appearance must be made in person at 201 E. Texas or by mail; phone appearances are NOT accepted)
- •You have 90 days from court approval to complete the course and return certificate + driving record to the court to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Per the official City of Midland DSC page (midlandtexas.gov/189): 'An appearance is required to be made within fourteen calendar days of the date of your citation. Your appearance should be made in person at 201 E. Texas or by mail. You may not enter an appearance by phone.'
- •The 14-calendar-day request deadline is stricter than many Texas courts that allow requests up to the appearance date printed on the citation — confirm with court if citation appearance date differs.
- •Do NOT take the DSC course before receiving court approval — eligibility is not guaranteed.
