How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Plea of Guilty or No Contest
- •DSC request/permission submitted on or before appearance date
- •Valid Texas Driver's License
- •Proof of insurance (financial responsibility)
- •DSC Completion Certificate (after completing approved course)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS (required with certificate submission)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •You have 90 days from approval (typical Texas standard; confirm with court) to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •DSC option is NOT available if you pay online without first selecting the DSC option — paying the fine outright online constitutes a conviction reported to DPS.
- •You are ineligible for DSC if you have completed a defensive driving course for another ticket within the past 12 months.
- •DSC is not allowed for: speeding 25+ mph over the limit, no insurance, passing a school bus, leaving the scene of a collision, construction zone violations, or CDL holders.
- •Drivers under age 17 must appear in open court with a parent or guardian present.
- •The online portal (municipalonlinepayments.com/lubbocktx) will only show DSC as an option if your specific citation is eligible — not all violations qualify.
