DSC Court Fees
⚠ $144.00 court fee, paid on or before the appearance/plea date on the citation. NO DSC or Deferral allowed for SCHOOL ZONE or CONSTRUCTION ZONE violations (no exceptions). CDL holders are NOT eligible.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written plea of Guilty/No Contest requesting DSC (signed plea form)
- •Copy of valid proof of insurance showing the violator as an insured/covered driver
- •Copy of valid Texas Driver License (Regular Classified) OR proof of active military duty
- •$144.00 court fee
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Driving Safety Course completion certificate (and a certified driving record if required by the court)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Plea and DSC request must be made in writing on or before the appearance date shown on the citation; the $144 court fee, proof of insurance, and driver license copy must be submitted by that date.
- •Completion window: Once the court approves the DSC request, the driver has 90 days to complete all requirements and submit all documents. NO due-date extensions allowed..
- •Eligibility: must hold a valid Regular Classified TX Driver License (or proof of active military duty); DSC not taken in the past 12 months and not currently taking one for another violation; valid TX liability insurance in effect at the violation date showing you as a covered driver.
- •Speeding eligibility: the cited speed must be less than 25 mph over the posted limit.
- •CDL holders are NOT eligible for DSC or Deferral.
- •Age 17 and up only; juveniles 16 and under must appear before the judge with a parent or legal guardian.
