DSC Court Fees
⚠ Total court cost to take a driving safety course is $154 ($134 base + $10 administrative fee + $10 state records fee); $179 in a school zone ($159 + the same $20). The course tuition itself is separate.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driver Safety Course Request Form
- •Proof of financial responsibility (valid liability insurance as of the request date)
- •Valid Texas driver's license (as of the request date)
- •DSC completion certificate (delivered to Yoakum Municipal Court or Yoakum Police Department within 90-day window)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request DSC before your scheduled court appearance date
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date the court grants the DSC request.

- •Eligibility exclusions: must not have taken a DSC for a traffic offense within the past 12 months; offense must not be speeding 25+ mph over the limit; CDL holders are not eligible; other statutory exclusions apply (school-bus passing, fleeing police, etc.).
- •Certificate must be delivered to the Yoakum Municipal Court or Yoakum Police Department within the 90-day postponement window.
- •Plead guilty or nolo contendere when submitting the DSC request form.
