DSC Court Fees
⚠ A $10.00 administrative fee plus court costs is charged for EACH traffic violation. To request, you must plead guilty or nolo contendere, pay court costs and the $10 fee, and present proof of insurance and a valid TX license/permit.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Current proof of liability insurance listing you as a covered driver
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (active military may use any valid state license)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Signed certificate of completion from a TDLR-certified driving safety course
- •Certified copy of Texas driving record (obtainable at texas.gov for $12.00)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made on or before the appearance date on the citation (citations require appearance within 30 calendar days of receipt).
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and submit the certificate and certified driving record..
- •Course school must be TDLR-certified.
- •Failure to submit documentation triggers a Show Cause Hearing; non-appearance results in a conviction reported to your driving record.
- •Ineligible if you took a DSC within the last 12 months, hold a CDL, or are charged with: failure to give accident info, leaving the scene of an accident, passing a stopped school bus/emergency vehicle, construction-zone speeding (workers present), or speeding 25+ mph over the limit / 95+ mph.
- •Multiple violations on the same citation each require a separate $10 fee and court costs.
