To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Valid Texas driver's license (presented at time of request)
  • Proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance) — must show defendant's name, vehicle coverage, effective date, and expiration date

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Driving record (Type 3A) from the Texas Department of Public Safety — must be presented within 90 days of request
  • Certificate of completion of an approved driving safety course — must be presented within 90 days of request

  • Before the appearance date on the citation (orally or in writing). No extensions given for defensive driving.
  • You have 90 days from the date of court approval/request to complete the course and submit all documents.
