Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Plea of guilty or nolo contendere (required when the request is made)
- •Evidence of a valid Texas driver's license or permit (or proof of active military duty)
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
- •Uniform certificate of course completion
- •Affidavit that you were not taking a DSC at the time of request and had not taken one in the prior 12 months
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of DPS driving record (unless the court obtains it for a fee)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made on or before the answer/appearance date on the citation. The judge has discretion to grant a late request.
- •Completion window: Court defers judgment 90 days; complete the course and submit proof, driving record, and affidavit by the 90th day..

- •Court meets approximately once a month; hours of operation are not published online — call to confirm.
- •DSC does NOT apply to: construction/work-zone violations with workers present, CDL holders, passing a school bus, leaving the scene of a collision, or speeding 25+ over / 95+ mph.
