DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court fee for driving-safety-course dismissal is $146, posted directly on the official Hood County JP4 citations page — this is a specific court-posted amount, not the statewide $144/$169 fallback. A separate course fee (paid to the state-approved course provider, not the court) also applies and is the student's responsibility.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •copy of driver license
- •proof of current Texas liability insurance
- •DSC Plea Sheet (JP4 Driving Safety Course Application)
- •money order or cashier's check payable to Hood County JP4 (if submitting by mail)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •after approval: certified Texas driving record from DPS ($10–$12 fee) plus course completion certificate
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be submitted by the appearance date shown on the citation.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of payment..
- •CDL holders and out-of-state license holders are not eligible for deferred disposition or the driving safety course.
- •Applicant must not have taken a defensive driving course within the previous 12 months.
- •Ineligible offenses: speeding 25+ mph over the limit or 95+ mph absolute, school bus violations, construction zone violations, accident-related violations (leaving the scene, failure to render aid/exchange info), and fleeing police.
- •Court instructs applicants not to make a payment until a clerk has instructed them to do so.
