⚠ Official plea sheet (Rev 6/2021) states the Driver Safety Course request requires enclosing 'ONLY the Admin Fees/Court Costs of $143.90.' The plea sheet does not list a separate school-zone DSC fee. Card payments via the GovRec portal incur an added 5% service fee.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed 'Request for Driver Safety Course' plea form (must plead no contest and waive jury trial)
- •Copy of driver's license
- •Proof of insurance
- •#10 self-addressed stamped envelope
- •Admin fee of $143.90 (cashier's check or money order payable to Coffee City Municipal Court, or card via GovRec portal)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Type 3A certified driving record obtained from texas.gov (after approval)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on your citation.
- •Completion window: Standard Texas 90 days after court approval (not explicitly stated on court materials; confirm with court)..
- •DSC eligibility per the official plea sheet: defendant must NOT hold a CDL and must NOT have taken a driver safety course within the past 12 months (limited to once every 12 months).
- •Defendant must obtain a Type '3A' driving record from texas.gov as part of the process.
- •For speeding 25 mph or more over the posted limit, the plea sheet instructs 'Contact Court' (no standard DSC option), consistent with TX ineligibility for 25+ over.
- •The Court does NOT accept telephone calls as an appearance; failure to appear can add a charge with a fine up to $500 plus state fees.
