How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of financial responsibility (auto liability insurance meeting Texas state requirements)
- •Proof of a valid Texas driver's license
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (from a TEA-approved driving safety course, or DPS-approved motorcycle operator's course if applicable)
- •Copy of driving record as maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before the appearance date on the citation (orally or in writing to the judge)
- •You have 90 days from appearance date — all proof of completion and driving record must be submitted before the end of this period to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •You MUST be approved by the Court before attempting to complete any Driving Safety Course.
- •If you were operating a motorcycle and request to take a DSC, you must take a motorcycle operator's training course approved by the DPS.
- •The course must be approved by the Texas Education Agency (or DPS for motorcycle courses).
- •If you fail to submit proof of completion before the 90-day deadline, you will be required to pay a fine of up to $200.00.
