DSC Court Fees
⚠ $144.00 standard ($134 state + $10 administration); $169.00 school zone ($159 state + $10 administration). Court costs and fees must be paid before course enrollment.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Notarized Driving Safety Request Form
- •Plea of guilty or no contest
- •Valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of vehicle liability insurance covering the offense date
- •Payment of court costs and fees
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of your TX DPS driving record (obtained after approval, returned within the 90-day completion period)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be received or postmarked by the initial appearance date.
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and obtain a certified DPS driving record after the court's approval letter is issued..

- •Defensive driving requires a plea of guilty or no contest; the court cannot recommend a specific course.
- •Ineligible offenses: 25+ mph over; prior DSC within 12 months; CDL holder; construction zone (workers present); school zone speeding; passing a school bus; following too closely; failure to provide accident information/aid; accidents or hit-and-run; evading police; uninsured driving; improper lane changes; reckless driving.
- •The Driving Safety Request Form requires notarization before mail/online submission.
