How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (presented when requesting)
- •Proof of auto liability insurance in your name (presented to the judge)
- •Signed and notarized DSC affidavit (after course)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certificate of completion (court copy, after course)
- •Certified copy of your DPS driving record (Type 3A, after course)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before your court date (in person at the clerk window or before the judge). Do not take the course before getting court permission.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date you request the DSC and sign the affidavit, to complete the course and submit the certificate, certified driving record, and notarized affidavit..
- •Do NOT take the course before coming to court — first get permission, pay costs, and show documents.
- •Must plead guilty or nolo contendere and waive jury trial.
- •Ineligible if: CDL holder; non-Texas license; speeding 25+ over; active construction zone with workers; passing a school bus; or DSC taken within the past year.
- •Insurance proof must be shown to the judge (not the clerk window).
