How to Request DSC Approval

In-personRequest permission to take defensive driving in person at the court by the due date on your citation; certificate and driving record are also turned in to the court.
MailRequest permission by mail by the due date on your citation; mail to PO Box 950, Santa Fe, TX 77510.

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Completed DSC Request form
  • Copy of valid Texas Driver's License
  • Proof of current vehicle liability insurance

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certificate of completion from the driving safety course
  • Copy of your driving record from the Texas DPS

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: Request (in person or by mail) by the due date on your citation.
  • Completion window: Upon approval, 90 days to complete the course and obtain your DPS driving record; submit both to the court within the 90 days..
  • You must request permission from the court to take defensive driving; it is not automatic.
  • If you comply with the judge's order, the charge is dismissed.
  • Failure to provide the certificate and/or driving record within 90 days sets a Show Cause hearing.
  • Failure to appear for the Show Cause hearing results in final judgment and conviction.
