How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of financial responsibility / vehicle liability insurance (must show coverage for date of offense and still be in effect)
- •Payment of court costs and applicable fees (cash or cashier's check)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (submitted after course)
- •Texas Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS (submitted after course)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •By initial appearance date — 20 business days from the date of the citation
- •You have Deadline established by the court at time of approval — contact court for specific window to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Request must be made by mail or in person — no online DSC request portal confirmed
- •Plea of guilty or no contest must be entered with the court as part of the DSC approval process
- •Must not have completed a defensive driving course (for citation dismissal) within the 12 months preceding the date of the current offense
- •CDL holders are ineligible — this applies even if driving a personal vehicle at the time of the offense
