DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court publishes standard court costs of $144.00 for a Driver's Safety Course, or $169.00 if the offense occurred in a school zone. Court costs are due at the time of the request.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license (non-commercial)
- •Proof of valid insurance with the defendant's name on the policy
- •Plea of no contest or guilty (with request)
- •Proof of course completion (certificate)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of driving record from the Texas DPS (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance/court date shown on the citation; court costs due at time of request.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date the request is approved to submit the completion certificate and certified DPS driving record (failure results in conviction with a $200 fine)..

- •Defendants 16 or younger must make a formal court appearance with a parent or legal guardian to request a driving safety course.
- •Eligibility: must not have taken a Texas DSC within the 12 months prior to the citation date; valid non-commercial TX license and valid insurance.
- •Ineligible: CDL holders; 25+ mph over; construction zone with workers present; passing a school bus loading/unloading students.
