How to Request DSC Approval

MailDownload the DSC affidavit from the court website and mail the request to Richmond Municipal Court, 600 Morton Street, Richmond, TX 77469, on or before the appearance/court date.
In personSubmit the request and court costs in person at the Municipal Court, 600 Morton Street, Richmond, TX 77469. Defendants 16 and under must appear in court with a parent or legal guardian.

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Valid Texas driver's license (non-commercial)
  • Proof of valid insurance with the defendant's name on the policy
  • Plea of no contest or guilty (with request)
  • Proof of course completion (certificate)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certified copy of driving record from the Texas DPS (Type 3A)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before the appearance/court date shown on the citation; court costs due at time of request.
  • Completion window: 90 days from the date the request is approved to submit the completion certificate and certified DPS driving record (failure results in conviction with a $200 fine)..

  • Defendants 16 or younger must make a formal court appearance with a parent or legal guardian to request a driving safety course.
  • Eligibility: must not have taken a Texas DSC within the 12 months prior to the citation date; valid non-commercial TX license and valid insurance.
  • Ineligible: CDL holders; 25+ mph over; construction zone with workers present; passing a school bus loading/unloading students.
