How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Notarized Driving Safety Course request with a plea of guilty or no contest
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license (non-CDL) or military ID
- •Proof of current liability insurance in your name
- •Court fee payment by check or money order
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made by the 10-day date on your citation or at your scheduled court appearance.
- •Completion window: Return signed completion documents to the court by the deadline stated in your approval paperwork (specific window provided upon approval)..
- •Do not take the course or order your driving record until you receive approval from the court.
- •Eligibility: valid Texas DL or military ID (no CDL), at least 17 years old, no DSC dismissal in the past 12 months and not currently taking one for another violation, speeding not more than 24 MPH over the limit, violation not in a construction zone with workers present, and not for passing a school bus.
- •Failure to comply results in a mandatory 'show cause' court appearance and a possible arrest warrant.
